Vibrant flowers, plants, trees and butterflies can grow anywhere, but Chicago’s south side does not come to the top of the list. Despite all the obstacles around the neighborhood, (drugs, high violent crime, unemployment and kids concerned for their safety), the garden is blossoming.
Imagine Englewood IF has brought together many volunteers throughout Englewood and Chicago to work every week in the garden for the past three years. The garden’s beauty offers a safe place to dream of what else can happen in Englewood if we work together. However, we need the tools to get the job done and this is where we need help.
The Chicago Sun-Times ran an article about the hope the garden brings. Unfortunately, some crooks read the article and broke into our tool shed afterwards. I heard about this on NPR and as an organizer and fundraiser for land protection, I think it is fabulous. I am glad to contribute in a small way.
